Before you call

Some opener problems have a simple cause. Do these checks first. If the door still does not work, call us.

Quick checks

Look at the light on the opener motor.

If the light is off, unplug the opener. Then plug it in again.

Make sure nothing blocks the safety sensors near the floor.

Replace the batteries in the remote or keypad.

If the door is very heavy when you lift it by hand, stop. The problem is probably a spring. Do not use the opener.

Signs you need opener repair

Electrical or mechanical, our technicians find the problem and fix it, so your door is safe and easy to use again.

The door does not open or close.

The keypad, remote or app does not work.

The door does not close all the way, or it reverses.

The opener squeaks or grinds.

The opener hums but the door does not move.

Openers we repair

Chain drive

The most common type. A metal chain moves the door along a rail.

Belt drive

A rubber belt in place of a chain, for a quieter door.

Screw drive

A threaded steel rod moves the door. Few moving parts.

Wall-mount

Also called jackshaft or side-mount openers. They mount beside the door.

Smart and Wi-Fi openers

Openers you control with a phone app, such as LiftMaster myQ.

Remotes, keypads and sensors

We repair, replace and program the accessories that control the door.

Repair or replace

When a new opener makes more sense

If your opener is old, has no safety sensors or its parts are no longer made, a repair may not be worth the cost. We install LiftMaster openers and give you the repair price and the replacement price, so you can compare.

Garage door opener questions

How long does a garage door opener last?

Most openers last 10 to 15 years. After that, parts can be hard to find, and a new opener often costs less over time than repeated repairs.

Do you repair openers that another company installed?

Yes. We repair most brands and types of openers. If a part is no longer made, we explain your options and give you the price.

Is the problem my opener or my door?

If the door is heavy when you lift it by hand, the problem is usually a spring, not the opener. Do not use the opener until a technician checks the springs.
